Case Study: Blackwood House New Build

In October 2021 Heath Carpentry Ltd services' were employed to take over the carpentry works of this new build property once the timber framing contractor had completed the watertight shell.

The property had been designed by TV's 'Building The Dream' architect Charlie Luxton's practice, and was to be built to Passivehaus standards, so it promised to be something very unique.

Externally the walls were double battened and then clad with black thermowood consisting of 2 different widths following the architects layout. A large flat roofed porch area was constructed which was clad with a contrasting larch cladding.

To the rear of the building a balcony area leading from the master bedroom had a composite decking installed over the flat roof.

Internally several challenges were overcome, including full height doors that reached 2.7m tall x 1.0m wide and weighing around 80kgs. These were hung on concealed hinges and also in pocket door format.

The staircase was designed and built in situ then clad over with hardwood engineered flooring that was also laid throughout the entire upper floor. Wardrobes were custom made with birch drawers and shelving. The master bedroom saw a feature wall of oak sheets and bespoke made drawer units to match.

Feature shelving was incorporated in two rooms to provide a seamless built in look. A very minimal architrave and skirting was used throughout along with solid oak window boards.

The Customer's Feedback...

Heath Carpentry helped us build our new home. They did all kinds of work including structural walls and a porch, cladding the whole exterior of the house in timber, building a bespoke staircase, hanging (ridiculously large and heavy) doors, laying a large wooden floor, window boards, building bespoke cabinetry, wardrobes and shelving, decking, skirting and architraves... basically anything we could throw at them!

We couldn't fault Gary and Jay. Work was completed to a very high standard, with great input to solve problems and consistent hard work through the whole of the project. They were friendly and helpful throughout the 20 weeks they worked with us - true modern tradesmen. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Heath Carpentry and would certainly ask them to complete any future projects for us.
